The cultural sector is embracing the Fair Practice Code: principles for fair and healthy professional practice. But what does this mean for musicians and composers in the genres of jazz, world and improvisation? What do the earning models in professional practice actually look like and what is fair pay for a live performance or composition?
“An eye for the future.”
Third chain table music professionals launched
Within FairPACCT, pop and classical have been working through chain tables for some time. On April 18, 2023, the Jazz/World/Impro chain table was launched, consisting of representatives of musicians, composers, venues, festivals, rights organizations, impresarios, professional training and (broadcast) programmers. First of all, the table wants to commission an independent study aimed at an adequate and up-to-date picture of this sub-sector. This should serve as a basis for developing rate guidelines for musicians and composers. An eye for the future and different sources of income and revenue models are important here, especially with regard to live/radio&tv/online. An additional focus is the relationship between (trained) musicians, subsidies provided or desired and the reality of the actual labor market.
Introduction chain table at professional conference inJAZZ
During the trade conference of the Buma Cultuur Festival inJazz on Friday afternoon, June 23, in Rotterdam, the chain table will present itself to the profession for the first time. The ambitions and approach will be highlighted, but it is mainly about the conversation with the visitors: what are the concerns, what are the opportunities, what should fairPACCT and the chain table definitely not overlook?
