It remains difficult to form a full picture of an equitable fee for interdisciplinary practices and the different contexts within the digital culture sector. Creators often have an interdisciplinary practice between art and technology, with each work presented in its own way.

The creator develops the work from beginning to end, from concept to realization. Presentations of the work take place during performance events, in exhibitions or as participatory programs. Because of the interdisciplinary nature of the work and the different roles the creator often takes in the process, for example, both that of technical producer and performer, the digital culture sector is complex. Guidelines that do not distinguish between different types of work and do not address all phases of the work process are not applicable to this sector.

The participants of the chain table are therefore developing a manual outlining the fee structure for makers, including guideline amounts and standards. All facets of professional practice will be included.

On May 11, 2023, the participants of the Digital Culture chain table met for the first time. Workers, work providers, intermediaries, experts and representatives of vocational training and knowledge institutes set to work concretizing the fair practice code in the field of new technologies, new media, games and the virtual domain.

The launch file covers the process of starting the chain table. It also provides insight into relevant studies, regulations, developments, parties, terms and conditions of employment and working conditions within the subsector.

Participants in this chain table include Instrument Inventors Initiative, V2_, Baltan, Creative Coding Utrecht, Highlight Festival, Sonic Acts, Fiber Festival, New Music NOW, LIMA, Waag Society, ArtEZ and several independent professionals.

The goals memo includes the intended goals of the chain table regarding practice tools, support and communication, implementation and assurance, and enforcement.

The practical tools to be created by the chain table could include good examples, framework of terms (with definitions), manual, fee guideline, proposals for (collective) agreements.
