New and updated fair pay practical tools
In early December, the Literature Organizations chain table presented a Job Classification Manual and Standard Regulations for Secondary Employment Conditions. Further research into the freelance rates included in the Standard Regulations was to follow, taking other chain tables and collective labor agreements into account. These freelance rates have since been increased, and the recalibrated Standard Regulations for Secondary Employment Conditions are now available. These two fair pay practical tools are primarily intended for those working at literary festivals, events, and literature-educational institutions.
Following the public consultation of recent weeks, the chain table can now also present a third practical tool: the Guidelines for Starting Rates for Performing Authors and (Spoken Word) Artists.
VLAM21, the umbrella organization for literary production organizations, recently calculated the fair pay additional costs at €0.6 million per year upon request. For the time being, the former State Secretary for Education, Culture and Science has allocated approximately €0.3 million structurally as of 2025 to bridge this gap.
