The Archaeology chain table hereby presents two new fair pay proposals and requests feedback from all stakeholders: preferably before Tuesday, October 1. Please use the form below for this. Feedback from fairPACCT and the chain table, based on the responses received, will be provided before the 1 November deadline.
The first proposal concerns an Archaeology Job Classification System, drawn up in collaboration with the recognized job evaluation agency Leeuwendaal. The second proposal concerns a note on Safety and Working Conditions in Archaeology.
Archaeology Job Framework
In June 2023, a Labor Market Monitor was published by the Archaeology chain table. This was based on a survey among workers conducted by Femke Tomas, lecturer/researcher at Saxion University of Applied Sciences. On December 1, 2023, the chain table also presented a draft Job Classification System featuring current roles and salaries. This draft was created based on an inventory by consultancy firm Marbles and Saxion University of Applied Sciences among employers and following a public consultation.
Subsequently, the recognized job evaluation agency Leeuwendaal was engaged, which has now, in coordination with the chain table, produced a proposal for an official ‘Archaeology Job Classification System. A suitable job classification system for employees in archaeological practice.’ This contains 16 reference positions, including profiles, evaluations, and archaeology salary tables and is based on the Collective Labor Agreement (CAO) for Municipalities, the Museum CAO, and the CAO Netherlands. Furthermore, fairPACCT, together with the chain table, has created a list of synonyms for other job titles that also occur and mapped these within the 16 reference positions.

Notitie Veiligheid en Werkomstandigheden Archeologie
On December 1, 2023, following a public consultation, the Archaeology chain table released the
‘Standard Regulations for Secondary Employment Conditions in Archaeology’. Three detailed notes were announced at the end of this document. In May 2024, two additional notes from the chain table were already made available to the field. These notes contain facts, bottlenecks, and proposals for improvement.

- ‘Notitie 2. Positie zzp’ers.’ van Rob Houkes.
The ‘Note on Safety and Working Conditions in Archaeology’ is currently open for consultation. This was drafted by archaeologist Jesper de Raad in collaboration with the chain table and after consulting an expert. It clarifies the current state of safety and working conditions for archaeologists in the field. This note specifically addresses physical safety and working conditions in the archaeology sector. The equally important mental aspect is not included: the chain table intends to address that subject at a later stage. The current note consists of 3 parts:
- laws and regulations
- outline of safety and working conditions
- questions and answers.
