About the Table
The Visual Arts Chain Table was established in 2024 and originated from Platform BKNL.
As of 2026, it consists of twelve members representing visual artists, museums, presentation institutions, galleries, fairs, and art academies. Under the leadership of chair Marianne Versteegh, they work on tools and guidelines for fair pay to stimulate better working relationships in the visual arts. The chain table conducts research, commissions studies, performs analyses, and develops concrete fair pay products.
At the request of part of the field and the authorities, the Visual Arts Chain Table has been working on a second revision of the Artist Fee Guideline since early 2025. In preparation for this, a second opinion from an independent researcher was published in July 2025. A revised fair practice contract will also be linked to this.
The chain table is also working on a new Guideline for Visual Art Commissions. Regarding fair practice, this involves an update of the National General Terms and Conditions for these commissions from Cultuur+Ondernemen.
Furthermore, with a view to fair pay, the focus is on formulating hourly rates for freelancers.
Particularly from 2027 onwards, the agenda includes broadening the work contribution/professional costs scheme, guidelines for studio policy, and a guide for a socially safe working environment.
