Guidelines for Artist Fees in 2026

With this message, we would like to provide clarity regarding the application of the Guidelines for Artist Fees as of January 1, 2026.

The Visual Arts Chain Table is currently working on a process to establish a single fair pay Guideline for Artist Fees and a corresponding calculator; however, this process will not be completed by January 1, 2026. We have therefore decided to advise that for the coming year 2026, both Guidelines—the ‘classic’ and the new Guideline—as well as both calculators, may be used. The Mondriaan Fund and the Ministry of Education, Culture and Science (OCW), which set the application of the guidelines as a condition for subsidies, have agreed to this.

In practical terms, this means that the amounts in the table and the calculator of the new Guideline on kunstenaarshonorarium.bknl.nl will not be adjusted for 2026, as the indexation of the Guideline has been suspended.

For the table and calculator of the classic Guideline, the amounts on kunstenaarshonorarium.nl will continue to be indexed annually and will be increased by 5.263% for 2026 compared to the year 2025.

The new Guideline was originally intended to take effect from 2025. However, unforeseen financial consequences emerged due to a cumulative effect of substantive changes and an indexation jump, which we previously reported on March 7. With our current update, we are now also aligning with the announcement from the Mondriaan Fund regarding the optional application of both Guidelines for Artist Fees and both calculators.

An independent second opinion on the new/revised Guideline has since been submitted, providing input for the Chain Table in the adjustment process. We will report on the progress of the process to return to a single Guideline as soon as possible.
