The Photography chain table of Platform ACCT\/fairPACCT aims to improve the position of photographers in the labor market. This first raised the question: what social and cultural value is attributed to this subsector and the professional group? This is clarified in the first practical instrument from the chain table: \u2018The value of professional photography\u2019<\/a>. <\/strong><\/p>\n


Report demonstrates significant and diverse value<\/b>
In collaboration with the chain table, three authors addressed the question regarding value. Based on 12 interviews with six workers and six clients, the general conclusion in their report is that the value of professional photography is considered high. Nine specific values were identified and described, such as being a window to the world, showing the truth, being immediate, making things recognizable, being accessible, persuading, making things visible, offering emotion, and capturing moments. Furthermore, the outlook for the future with AI is that skilled photographers with a strong vision, unique style, and clear narrative will continue to secure assignments. <\/p>\n


Proposal for a two-year program<\/b>
At the same time, the interviews recognized that discussing photography and articulating its underlying values happens too infrequently. This applies to the photographer as well as the user and the viewer. More support must be offered to the professional group to become more aware of the value they add and represent. Therefore, a program\u2014initially for two years\u2014should be established to increase (self-)confidence in photography and to better utilize its social and cultural value. The program consists of three key pillars: debate and encounter, education, and communication. <\/p>\n

Given the urgency, one of the authors of the report on the value of photography has already proceeded with further communication efforts. Anne Bloemendaal of Flowerdales Agency has launched the podcast \u2018Everyone takes photos,\u2019 in which she further explores the value of photography. In it, she speaks with photographers, clients, and others about various current themes. <\/p>\n
